I just bought the Johnson manual for my motor, and it places great emphasis
on checking the simple things first, so time & money aren't wasted. Sounds like your shops hadn't heard of the idea. Now...I'm gonna go jiggle wires, because my 15 hp Johnson's running really rough, and stalling at very low idle. New plugs, too. It's beyond me why I changed them in October 2 years ago, and then stuck the boat in the garage. Should've changed them in the spring. "LD" wrote in message ... One thing to check is a wire grounding out. Being that old you very well may have some primary or secondary wires with broken insulation. I've had a coil on a 25hp Johnson break down and cut me down to one cylinder. Took me forever to find it. The Parts/service shops wanted to sell me first a trigger, then a power pack when all along, it was the coil. I found it running the motor in shallow water with the cover off, jiggling wires until I saw the spark jump. --------just something else to try. LD wrote in message ... I bought a 1976 McKee craft cat cay with a 70hp Johnson outboard. The problem I am having is that after the boat runs for an hour or so and I idle for a few mins it will die and refuse to start for about a half hour and then today I put into the water and it would not start. Had plenty of battery to turn the moter over and new fuel mix but it would not start, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in adance Bill |
