Default Need wood for a boat?

We had a fairly several thunderstorm here last night (Friday night) and
one of the big tulip poplars on our property took a direct hit. The tree
is about 120' tall, and bark was stripped from almost the very top right
down to the ground, on two sides.

Well, the tree is coming down, tomorrow, I believe. Actually, it would
make lousy boat wood, but I have seen some light furniture covered in
its veneer.

Damn hit made a hell of a racket.
