The Mercury Verado will do it.

Who knows? but your main motor may give you some idea.If you have a 40 and
it easily planes and goes fast, say 40, then maybe something a lot smaller? You didn't give a lot of info. My guess would be something like 15-25 hp? -- Ron White |

I would look at a 10hp high torque model.

My 18.6 foot sailboat at 1200 pounds has a 6 hp outboard as it's auxiliary.

The real question is how much horsepower to you need to be happy with the boats performance. My guess is that lightly loaded and with one person aboard you could probably get the boat to plane with about 25 hp. To be able to plane consistently with more than one person, reasonable fuel, and a fair amount of gear, you'd probably be happier with 50 to 90 hp. |
