Draining the carburetor might help.

As will using Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer in every tankful. Any gas that sits
more than a couple of weeks can turn to "varnish"...lawn mower gas cans,
stored cars & boats, etc. Every lawn mower problem I've ever had was due to
bad gas...luckily I learned about Sta-Bil before I bought the boat.
