shifting problem
1984 50hp mariner. i had to remove the shift and throttle cables from the motor.the remote was in forward gear when i did this.i removed the motor from the boat and reinstalled it.i hooked cables back and they are not reversed but i cannot shift out forward.i tried to shift the motor in the up position and down position both. any body have any ideas? Lets start he OK, assuming you are using a correct control box & cables. Disconnect both cables. Put the engine in neutral by moving the shift slide mech the roughly its center position. Verify that the engine is in neutral by the ability of the prop to turn freely in both directions. With the control in neutral, Locate the shift cable. It will be the first cable to move when you move the lever, (the shorter of the two when you hold them up with the barrels aligned) Attach it to the shift mech and adjust the cable barrel adjuster to go in its place. Let us know how it works out. BR |
