Default OMC Trim switch help needed

Hi: I have a V6 Johnson with power T/T. The trim/tilt unit itself
works fine. The switch on the engine cowling operates it perfectly.

The problem is that the switch on the remote shift/throttle handle
(OMC) doesn't work at all - neither up nor down. It worked fine earlier
in the summer, but not now.

I'm thinking it is probably a pretty simple fix, but looking at it, I
just can't figure out where to start. Having taken apart the control
box before, I don't want to start by just doing that if it's not
needed.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Thanks

There is not simple easy fix. You can check any plugs that go
from that to the wiring hardness that goes back to the engine.
You're just going to need to trace it down which will take some time.
If its not going in either direction but works from the back
you have a bad connection (most likely power)

You can always see if the switch is just bad by jumpering the
connections
but if you unsure about your electrical skills, leave it up to a good
mechanic.

My pleasure, glad to see it was an easy fix. If your using this
boat in a salt water environment, its a good idea to use a
nice dielectric gel, or even vasoline to protect electrical
connections from the environment.

Happy boating!

Thanks. I do have a tube of dieletric silicone/grease and forgot to
dab it on when I repaired the connection - I'll have to do the enire 3
minute job again this evening. (that's a joke. Usually it's a much
longer job I have to do over because I've fogotten some simple but
important step!). Good idea, even though only about 1 out of 20 of my
boating days are in salt water. It's so easy, I should really do every
connection with it.
