Once upon a time (in the days of Clinton) the White House published a nice
tasteful webpage. see http://web.archive.org/web/199812021...elcome-nt.html Then along came Bush and things turned political www.whitehouse.gov. Of interest also is that cached copies showing the history of Whitehouse.gov during the Clinton administration are hard to find, but I can find archived copies of my ISP home page back to day 1 http://web.archive.org/web/*/rpa.net I used wayback machine to find these. If anyone else can find a better history of whitehouse.gov, I would be interested. http://www.archive.org/web/web.php |

First I'm sorry for mispelling whitehouse in the topic line.
I have learned more see http://weblog.siliconvalley.com/colu...s/001450.shtml Where there is notice that someone who controls Whitehouse.gov set loose a bot Begin quote of comment " Well, go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/robots.txt and go see for yourself. This:
http://www.differentstrings.info/archives/003137.html Yesterday, Atrios posted a story about how the folks at The White House Website have changed their robots.txt file to prevent search engines from cataloging pages about Iraq. While no one is quite sure, yet, why they're doing this, one theory that has been floated is that it is to prevent those pages from being cached by Google, thus making it harder to prove that anything has been changed - such as earlier this year when they edited all the pages that has referred to Bush declaring that "combat operations" in Iraq had ended to show, instead, that Bush had said that "major combat operations" had ended. And the line we are supposed to believe is that John Kerry "flip/flops" I have a link somewhere that clearly shows the whitehouse web page before and after the quote was changed. Want me to find it? I would like very much to see a comparison between the last days of Clinton
and the current use of Whitehouse.gov. Please post any links you can find "Jim" wrote in message ink.net... ![]() "Jim" wrote in message ... Very interesting thread, Jim, even if it is all you responding to yourself. Seriously, I feel the Whitehouse & other government sites should not disallow archiving. If something is on a governement website it is public information paid for by tax dollars. While I'm no fan of Bush, and haven't even followed your whitehouse.gov link to look yet - - I will note this about the comparison between Clinton and Bush web sites: The use, understanding, and roll of the internet have changed a LOT between Clinton's time and Bush's. That may or may not justtify a more political Whitehouse.GOV site, but it at least need to be considered. The Internet, or "Information Super Highway" as it was called ad nausium back then, REALLY got the publics attention around 1994/1996. But even from 2001 to today - the realization of the political power and uses of the internet has changed DRASTICLY. Comparing Clinton era use of the internet to Bush era use might be an unfair comparison on some levels. |

Check the addresses GAry -- I responded to my post once to apologise for a
spelling error, and now this one, -- there are several other Jims here, I know it can get confusing. Maybe we should all pick a number Jim1,2,3 ect. "Gary Warner" wrote in message ...
