I enjoy being on the water and the fresh air. Cruising's fine, and so is
just sitting still, fishing or relaxing.

I gotta admit myself, I tend to prefer the destination with the anchor
set and the relaxing that goes along with it. I tend to see the boat as
a tool to get me somewhere while my son sees the boat as a motor on
water.
I'll take the swimmin' hole with it's snacking, lunching, swimming,
napping, and relaxing over the buzzing about business anyday; of course,
that's fair weather talk.

Go for it. That is half the fun of boating.....finding a nice place to
anchor and enjoy the water. Some folks spend their anchor/drift time
fishing....others swimming.

Except for cruising to various ports, we have mostly used our boat (after
some 25 years of boat ownership we sold our last boat in 2003 for medical
reasons but will be purchasing a smaller one soon) to travel to a swimming
spot (and we do have a spot we call the swimming hole in Huron, Ohio).
When doing so we would anchor in waist high water, set a stern anchor and
enjoy the day swimming and chilling. When bringing the boat back to our
dock we would usually spend the night on it if it were a Saturday night or
when on vacation.

Some folks here are serious fishermen and use their boats only for
fishing. While we have fished off the boat in spring and fall, come warm
weather we were mainly off to the beaches or other ports for weekend or
multi-day stays.

We have boated like this with our kids since they were infants (one is now
17 and the other 20) and they say they will never forget the times we had
together as a family on the boat.

And despite the fact that we are currently without a boat, we still like
to spend our time on the water. ;-)
