Default Engine Alarm - Should I worry?

I have a Larson 2002 SEI180 with a 6 cyl Volvo Penta. It has run great
and still is running great. The first time I took it out this year this
past weekend, the audible engine alarm was going off very pulsing, not
going off as a continuous alarm, but as a stucatto choppy chirping. The
engine ran fine, all gages were normal. I have not changed the air
filter or the plugs since it was new in 2002, but put very few hours on
it every year. Any suggestions????

Don't worry, be HAPPY! Just run it until it stops and the problem will be
easier to find! Question" would you drive your car with the oil light
flashing?????

John,

Have it checked out. BTW, you don't have an air filter.. it's a spark
arrester/backfire preventer. They just need cleaning from time to time..
like about every three years or so. Assume you're running with unleaded
regular fuel therefore it's HIGHLY unlikely you have a plug problem.

Call your Volvo service shop manager before taking your boat in. Describe
the problem and he may be able to give you some guideance or an appointment
if needed. Who did your seasonal service for this year? What did you have
done?

Butch

Woodchuck,

John comes across as being new to boating, eh? Sarcasm is generally
unhelpful but particularly to those new to our recreational persuit.

I agree, but added the car/oil light thingy for comparison.

Read the manual to see what functions the alarm services. Mine goes off for
overheating, low oil, and low final drive fluid. I didn't realize the 'final
drive' part until I noticed fluid leaking from the seal in same.
