I was alone outside fiddling around with a flashlight, when I heard this
tremendous splash! I waved the light around trying to see where and what
this sound had come from. At first, in the narrow beam of the light, it
looked like the leathery brown of a beavertail. Upon closer look it resolved
itself into a face! Orangish-brown and scowling. It was kind of like looking
at one of those snow monkeys who live in the Himalayas and also like some
kind of caveman. This guys eyes reflected like a cat's and it covered it's
face with it's large arms and started up the hill towards me! Of course, I
ran! Ran so fast I barely remember how I got back to the house! I blurted
out that there was some kind of monster-animal down at the river and it came
toward me! Grandpa, who'd lived in the area nearly all his life, seemed to
know exactly what I was talking about and went to look for his rifle. I was
like, wait, I did'nt want it dead! I just wanted to know what it was! My Dad
and two Uncles also armed themselves and all of us went to the spot I was
sitting when I was appraoched. At first, it seemed the coast was clear, then
All heads turned toward another splashing noise, like a large rock hitting
the water. Grandpa shined his flashlight and caught sight of those
reflective eyes and fired. "Yeah! I got the sonuvab!+*#!" It howled and
started across the river. Dad or somebody reluctantly let another bullet
fly. All this time, I was trying my best to keep my eyes on the dark form
crossing the river. Now, this river has a four foot depth and a strong
current, but this guy walked through it like it was just a creek! It
disappeared into the treeline and everyone went back inside. I followed and
for the rest of my vacation there, I stayed inside at night.
