Default Trolling motor control

I have a 47 pound thrust minnkota motor on the bow of my boat. At 5
(it highest setting) the motor thrust makes all kind of noise as the
brackets and linkage tighten. Does anyone have a circuit for soft
starting the motor? Meaning, slowly bringing the motor up to full
speed over several seconds and not all at once. I would guess the
motor draws 30 amps or so. I know it less than 40 because it has a 40
amp fuse. I normally only run it at 3 but sometime wind or current
require 5. I think the excess noise can scare the fish.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks Paul

Is the noise a result of the mechanically fastened motor? Or because too
much current reaching the motor all at once? You can interrupt or control it
with an additional regulator of some type. I had a minnkota and it did have
4 or 5 speeds forward and 3 reverse. Try to strengthen that brackets where
it is attached. Eliminate the noise there, if it is the surge, there are
ways of reducing or controlling that but you would have to override with an
off the product controller, that can be done but why did you buy the
minnkota that doesn't have one? The minnkota I had 10 years ago was around
120. dollars and had all those speeds. There must be a voltage controller on
there somewhere, you sure it is wired up properly? 12volts? 24 volts?

You wouldn't be able to add an external motor control because it would
really mess up the internal control. It would be possible to disassemble
the control head, grab the two wires that actually go to the motor (they
will be the biggest two out of 5 or 6) and them make your own controller
that would provide a soft start. If you were really creative you might even
be able to utilize the switching transistors that are mounted down in the
motor housing and thus utilize the water cooling (that is what the other
wires are for that travel down the pipe to the motor).

That would be way more work than fixing your mount, however.
