Well, it clouded over for a while, but so far, nary a drop. I know that
as soon as I set up the sprinklers, the downpour will start. After all,
I washed my car yesterday, too.

70,000 sq ft. to be watered by sprinklers, lol.

Harry, 70,000 square feet of yard is about 1.6 acres of grass to cut.

That is w-a-y too much for someone who also enjoys boating.

Let some of it return to wild growth and maybe wetlands.

Only about an acre of it is tue lawn; the rest of the yard is semi-wild,
but I do give the latter some attention so it doesn't become too unruly
and a fire hazard. The rest of the place is a speck of farmland and woods.
It takes me four to five hours a week "in season" to keep it mowed via
my little garden tractor. Unless it is awfully hot, I don't. I start
very early in the morning.

People with boats should not put fertilizer on their lawns. If you cant
pay someone to fertilize then you cant pay someone to cut it. Skip the
fertilizer and you wont have to cut it so often therefore freeing up time
for boating... Resisting the urge to water the lawn will also increase
the time you have to go boating.. Who cares what the neighbors think!

Got to be nuts to allow that much grass to grow! When a early teenager, I
had to cut about an acre of lawn. Grandparents farm, and the temperature in
the central valley of Calif would be around a 100 degrees. sometimes they
ran the cows for a while to shorten it, but came down to "Billy, go cut the
grass".

I agree. Some of it is meadow, and I plan to plant a small orchard on
part of it. On one side of the "other side" of the woods behind us sits
a 30 acre clearing for a horse ranch (farm?). The guy who owns it mows
it fairly regularly. Now that's a mow job.

Nope, electric for a while. Grandpa converted a push mower to electric by
rigging an electric motor to it. We have smart people in my family, unlike
some. Later a gas rotary mower. Worked much better on the Bermuda Grass.
