I've been meaning to ask this: Is a 3/8" galvanized shackle as strong as the
3/8" chain? Also, would a 3/8 SS shackle be stronger and suitable for
anchoring long term? How about the SS shackle with galvanized chain?

Measure the nomial dia. of the pin above the thread. Also the pin thread
will normally be a standard thread size/pitch (although, more difficult to
measure). The shackle it'self will usually be of the same dia. round stock
as the shackle pin.
