Default Merk Mark 58?

Can anyone tell me how many ponies this 4 cyl. pumps. It has a
superthunderbolt insignia. I've had older ones of the keikhauffer variety.
does the 58 mean 58 ponies? Itz black which means 60's era?If so i'm
ditchin' the 35 evinrude...two stroke twin.

The 1958 Mark 58 and 1959 Mark 58A are rated at 45hp... but how much did
they really put out? Probably between 45-50 hp in the upper end of the
operating range when close to new. It sounds like someone painted yours
black... I think they were originally all white.
