Default Mercruiser Power Steering Pumps??

Hello everyone

I am in the process of converting my gas guzelling Mercruiser 165bhp
striaght 4 petrol engine to a more efficient ford transit diesel.
However I an unaware of the power sterrin gthat are avalable to me for
use with this engine and to be sompatible with the mersruiser set up
(Its an Alpha On Drive unit)

Can anyone tell me if there is an equivilent pump for the for engines
or can i uses a simliar item to the original?

Can anyone tell me what the original pump was? The word Saginaw gets
banded around? is this a make of pump?

Thanks to all who attemp to answer

I'd say if you can fabricate or purchase a mounting bracket that will put it
in a favorable position and have the pulley arrangement to drive it...use
the one you've got.

Saginaw is the name of the steering gear division of General Motors.
