I assume the tag receipt is in the original owners name. If so, you will
have to have a bill of sale from that person in order to register. A bill of sale from the person you purchased it from is meaningless as the original owner can claim it was stolen and you have no option but to provide the boat back to the original owner. Did the original owner say why she would not give you a bill of sale? You must either get a bill of sale or your money back. You may find that you have to sue to get your money back unfortunately if the person is a xxxx. -- Tony my boats at http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "chantal & stephen" wrote in message ... can anyone tell me how to get an ownershipe for a boat.i bought a boat off someone who has the ownership but it is still in the original owners name(buddy did not see the need to transfer)i did contact the original owner but she dose not want to wright me a bill of sale.is ther a way to reregister a boat.so if any one could help me i thank you and thank you for your time. steve |

Just contact the Department of Motor Vehicles. They take an extremely dim view of fraud in vehicle transfers. Tell the person you bought from to get the title straightened out or you go to the DMV. Been there, got the tee shirt and the money. Bill |
