High School standout Louis Williams said he will enter the NBA draft instead
of attending the University of Georgia. Williams, the Naismith Trophy High School Player of the Year, announced his decision Wednesday at his high school. He protected his amateur status by not hiring an agent. But when asked about the chances he would change his mind and attend the University of Georgia he said, "Probably slim and none." "The opportunity is fresh right now," he said. "I don't want to pass on an opportunity that may not be there later." Williams said he had spoken with Georgia coach Dennis Felton on Wednesday after making his decision. He said Felton offered congratulations, but said he would hold Williams' scholarship open if he changed his mind in the next month. The NBA draft is June 28, and Williams can withdraw his name before June 21 and not lose his college eligibility. Williams, who averaged 27.5 points as a senior, was ranked as one of the top high school players in the nation and was the top name in Georgia's signing class. But as a 6-foot-2 shooting guard, Williams' NBA future is uncertain. One Internet site has Williams listed as the No. 45 pick overall -- midway through the second round -- in its latest mock draft. Another ranks Williams as a bubble player who could be drafted late in the first round but is more likely to be a second-round pick. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Has anybody heard of this guy? I thought that I heard that Congress was considering legislation to set an age limit for players entering the NBA. |

That would be a better solution than Congressional action. But it should be done, I think. But, then, what about all the high schoolers who turn pro in tennis, soccer, et cetera? Bit of a sticky wicket, eh By the way, since we are off-topic, I have expanded my personal hottie list to include Mira Sorvino. Does she play basketball? |

Bit of a sticky wicket, eh Congress should make no law either for or against the minimum age of being drafted into the NBA or any orther professional sports league. The people that want the law are the colleges due to the fact that they believe that they want to protect their ability to make money off of these amatuer athletes without compensating them. By the way, since we are off-topic, I have expanded my personal hottie list to include Mira Sorvino. You are late to the party on Mira! |

~~ snippage ~~ Has anybody heard of this guy? I thought that I heard that Congress was considering legislation to set an age limit for players entering the NBA. Oddly enough, I have. He is not NBA caliber as his high school conference is a joke. In one mock draft I saw, the comment was "He should have been in the 50 to 60 points per game class". Later, Tom |

Yes, I've heard of him. Really? I didn't figure you for a basketball aficionado. Studies have shown that those who use pot, don't watch pro sports because their brains can't operate fast enough to follow the action. Is he any good? Have you seen him play? |

Also, while you are at it, please show the group what evidence you have that I "use pot". Have any, or just another ignorant statement from you? Is he any good? Yes, he's very good. Have you seen him play? No, but he gets tons of local publicity. |
