State Environmental Department To Conduct Boat Noise Level Tests

Any other states really enforcing boat noise standards?
I would say that enforcement is non-existent in Maryland waters.

This has been in the works for the last two years ago - it was linked
to the legislation that made drunk boating laws equal to drunk driving
laws. At the time, .08 was the driving statute, .1 was the boating
statute.

There was an attempt at the time to attach noise legislation to the
drunk boating legislation, but it failed due to opposition from, of
all people, the Democrats (the bill was written and sponsored by a
Republican).

This noise statute is exactly the same as the automobile statute which
raised my eyebrow a little.

I hate to be cynical and say that this is all related to the
multi-million dollar estates and homes along the shore being bothered
by the high noise level from some boats, but it would appear that is
exactly what it is all about. And I guarantee the noise level will be
such that an ordinary PWC won't pass the test.

==========================================

At least they are going about it the right way instead of trumping up
phoney baloney manatee issues, slow speed zones and dock building
restrictions. And if PWCs don't pass until they are quieted down,
that's fine also, about time in fact.
