Default Yamaha 115 breakin

Took delivery of new boat Friday afternoon, and have a question for the
knowledgeble masses...

New 2005 Yamaha 115 4-stroke. Sales manager says, vary your speeds for the
first few hours- no problem. Sales man says, don't abuse it for the first
hour or so- no problem. Manual says- 2000rpm first hour, 3000rmp second
hour, varying speeds third hour.

I'll be going with the manual (they built it afterall), but how many others
do? What happens if I nail it at 1hr 45min? (I won't... but I could)

On another note, MAN that thing is quiet! I have a grand total of 1/2 hour
on it (long story- NOT boating related) and that's my first impression. I'm
used to my antique Force 120, so it was quite a shock to hear that Yama
purring back there. I can't wait to actually get the boat up on plane!

Do as the dealer said. Just run it at varying rpms for the first few hours.
Vary about every 2 minutes or so by couple 100 rpms.
You can do what the manual says for the first two hours by letting it idle
at these rpms in neutral at the dock. But that is a waist of gas.
If you do open it up for a short burst it won't hurt anything. Point is to
not run the engine hard until broke in and not run at a set speed.

As for quite - yes a 4 stroke is a lot quiter than that Force. Any new
engine will be quiter than the Force thought.

Vary your speed for the first few hours. It's easy to just cruise
around and bump the throttle up or down once in a while.

You'll love that motor. I've had mine since 2000. Other than
oil/filter and spark plug changes, the only part that I've replaced is
the starter. That was due to a lightning surge that came through my
battery charger and fried the starter.

Had 3 of these mounted on a 16' flat-bottom Jon boat. I sure did get
the looks, running into the marina at 85 mph.
