Default Rough winter for the boat.

Had the boat dropped in the water Thursday. While it was being lifted to the
water from the boatel, I noticed some new scratches on the hull. Had the fork
lift operator stop so I could get a closer look. On the port side, about a third
of the way back, were three deep scratches, each about six inches long. At the
first (from the bow) scratch was also a crack through the gelcoat (at least)
about three inches long. Apparently the boat took a pretty good hit there. The
angles of the scratches indicate that they probably occurred while riding on the
forks of the lift.

Also, a corner was broken off the plate above the propellor. Not sure if it's
repairable. May just cut the corner off the other side and round the edges to
make it symmetric.

Haven't talked to the manager yet, although they've been good in the past about
fixing any damage they've caused. Hopefully this time will be no exception.

Took the boat out to the bay, ran it up on plane, and made sure everything
worked. It did. Now I have to go rig the rods for trolling and try to catch a
few rockfish. Maybe I'll set a new boat record this year, which wouldn't take
much as I haven't broken the 40" mark yet!

Sorry to hear about the damage to your boat John and I hope the marina makes
good on the repairs. It should not be a major fix for them....but make sure
they order and OEM gelcoat repair kit rather than trying to match the color.

Don't you wash and wax the boat yourself prior to splashing it for the
season? I would have thought you would have caught this earlier.

Best of luck on your fishing this season.

This *was* the first time I'd seen the boat this season. It had been at the back
end of the boatel. The marina had had the boat out the week before for spring
commissioning, tune up, new batteries, etc., but I wasn't there when they did
it. Apparently the lift operator got a little excited.

riding it may not have been a good idea, because now they can say it
was you who made the damage... Not that it would have been easy to
prove before

good call

I hope you took photos and have witnesses since many people suffer from
amnesia when it comes to these things

Sorry to hear about the damage. Glad to hear it still floats.

I have a couple of 40" stripers in the log, but I've never caught one
over 40".

My best is 39 1/2. Probably should have stepped on its head. But then I'd have
guilt feelings for the rest of my life!

Kind of like making sure there is lots of water in the fish's stomach
when it get's weighed. :)
