OH, NOW I understand! The point was that Pete Rose, although he knows
more than most about the sport, can't possibly be an expert, because
he got caught doing what probably MOST of the other experts (players,
coaches, etc.) do? Thank you for clearing that up!!!! I couldn't for
the life of me figure out what old Henry was getting at ;)

I helped Henry by yanking some mental floss through his head a few times.
Now, he seems to be saying that you might not trust Pete Rose with regard

to
certain things. Guessing: Unless you were stupid, you probably wouldn't

loan
him money, since he may have a gambling problem. But you still might talk
baseball with him.

This guy certainly seems to know what he's talking about. He's
spent his life in bull****...

Actually, I'm quite adept at helping weak minds dig themselves a hole they
can't get out of. Sometimes I offer a shovel afterward.

Pete Rose spent his life in baseball... so?

what's your point?

Hey, you're MAKING my point, and don't even realize it!!!!! Too funny!
I'll break the analogy down for you...just FOR YOU.....
Pete Rose spent his life in baseball, you are correct. Pete Rose,
because he spent his life in baseball, knows an awful lot about the
subject, and could EASILY be called an expert, and correctly so.

Yeah, but don't you know that one mistake erases everything you ever knew
about your profession? :-) And, based on this theory, perhaps 75% of avid
baseball fans know nothing about the sport because they probably wagered at
least once on the outcome of a game.

And you are an expert at ???

Quite a few things, actually. What is your point?

Of course. To do otherwise would be depressing.

I thought we did that already. Your point is that if someone's behavior
doesn't align with your moral compass, their entire history of expertise is
erased.

No, but it is certainly suspect.

What is your point? That we don't need moral and ethical standards at all?
Or that there shouldn't be punitive measures in place for those that cross
over the line?
Should all Lawyers that have been disbarred be allowed to practice again?
Should all Doctors who have had their licenses revoked be allowed to do the
same?
I simply used Pete Rose in a analogy of sorts and you blew it all out of
proportions and original intent.

If moral and ethical standards concern you, you cannot be a Bush supporter.

I certainly hope you're not involved in the legal profession. You really do
NOT have the mind for such things. Punitive issues are appropriate when
crimes have been committed or professional standards violated. But YOU
suggested that someone's knowledge or expertise are diminished if they
crossed over a certain line, whether that line be moral or legal. That is
absolutely absurd.
