I've been using Linux for close to 10 years now, and break out in hives, if I have to use MS. Linux has many Live CDs now, that can let you get a feel for the system, without having to alter your existing MS system. Just a thought. http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=cd http://www.linuxiso.org/ Or, my favorite: http://www.debian.org/distrib/ As this is a computer NG and this is a computer related notice to the forum users it is not OT. Besides, I will now mention the word..................BOAT. ;-) Ok, I bit on this, went to the debian website, and found that jigdo was a necessity. It's not. Full CD images are available starting he http://www.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/ Jigdo and bittorrent are the preferred ways to save bandwidth, but they are not necessary. Then, I linked out to http:////atterer.net/jigdo/#download to download jigdo so I could make installation disks and got not only that program but, also, a loader virus called W32/Agent.JN@dl that (fortunately) my anti-virus caught and deleted. I suspect it's a false positive. W32/Agent is a downloader. So is jigdo. While it's possible the jigdo site has been infected, I doubt it. The Open Source world is quick to find and fix any shenanigans. Still, if you are uncomfortable, use the above link for a full CD. Frankly, I've never downloaded a full CD. My preferred way to install is a netinstall. It's a minimal install, then uses the net to download the programs I want. http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst |
