Hey, stupid...it's the economy...
I am on the right coast.
A few years ago the US put tariffs on Canadian lumber, 2x4's specifically, because your cost of production, harvesting and shipping, was lower than the cost of our lumber. So, Canada's response was to drill a hole, ostensibly for the electrical wire to go through, in each 2x4 and call it manufactured lumber by passing the tariffs on unmanufactured lumber. Bert "Don White" wrote in message ... Sorry...don't know anything about that. Which coast are you on? Bert Robbins wrote in message ... Was that the 2x4's with the holes dirlled in them and called manufactured lumber? |

I can't imagine anything worse than the smirking chimp in chief we've got running the show now, but it appears about 47% of the population don't agree. Yup, it's just opinion. No one's minds will change here. I don't have to imagine anything worse. I lived through 8 years of worse. If we had elected Captain Planet (Al Gore), he would have implemented carbon taxes No way to prove or disprove that opinion. I don't have to prove it. I'm just going by what Al Gore said. He strongly supported the Kyoto Treaty, which would have required extremely high fuel taxes in order to reduce fuel consumption to the required targets. Along with those high prices, what's left of our manufacturing would have followed the cheap energy to China and elsewhere. Why, because Kyoto didn't place any limitations on the "developing" nations' energy use. If you accept the global warming theory, then you have to admit that carbon emissions are bad no matter what the country of origin. Kyoto was an attempt to level the economic playing field more than an environmental treaty. to save us from the global warming myth What part of the global warming situation do you think is a myth, and why? and we'd be paying over $3.00/gallon now. IMO, the best thing that could happen is $5.00 a gallon gas, with $4.95 of that consisting of taxes. I'll never understand the logic that says that if a corporation sells something that people want and the corporation makes a lot of money, it's evil, but if government seizes even more money, it's wonderful. Even at our appointed presidents Oh give it a rest already. pace of increased spending, we could balance the budget. It'll never happen, both parties spend more than they take in. I'd be all for reduced spending to balance the budget. And, as an added bonus, we could starve the very people who finance middle eastern terrorists. I suppose every SUV and recreational boat owner is guilty of supporting terrorism because of their fuel consumption. Nonsense. Where's your proof? Besides, how would impoverishing people make them not want to kill us? The only problem with that being it would involve some short term self sacrifice from the American consuming public. I don't mind sacrifice if it makes sense. Hell, I work for a living. I sacrifice my wages until about the end of May every year, just to pay my taxes. That's a sacrifice. You haven't explained how crippling our economy for the sake of an unproven theory would provide any benefit. bb |

Canadians aren't that devious...the company must have an American owner. :-)

Precisely. "Intent" is the difference between a crime and an acquittal. If you shoot and kill someone with a gun, you only go to jail if there was intent to cause harm. Improper handling of a firearm rarely leads to jail time. |

At the moment, I am more concerned with a President who has done great harm to my country, and it isn't just a matter of "policy." Of course it's just a matter of policy, one you don't agree with. Well over half the country currently thinks he has not done a great deal of harm to the country and that we are much better off today then we would be if the 2000 election had gone the other way.
