Well, guys, our armed forces have a few openings. I'd think a good many of our
unemployed could get employed right quick if they want. Of course, as always, a HS diploma is always useful. Lack of an arrest record helps, too. Oops, how about that constant random drug testing? The pay is not exactly handsome but there is a hell of a good benefit package. The downside is the danger, of course. Constant difficult training is not always fun. The family separation problems is very difficult to cope with. But, it's a great life for those who want to serve and do meaningful things and have one hell of a good time earning decent pay after a couple of years. Butch |

You're gonna whine about a three cent increase in 4 years? If you want to talk June 2000, the peak average week in June 2000 national average of all grades all formulations was the week of June 19, 2000 at $1.711. It's currently $1.681 and trending up. It was only $1.509 mid December 2003. But, what was it in February of 2000? It can hardly be called whining, when you, like the rest of BushCo, spin like that! Basically, it hasn't really changed much in the past 4 years especially in inflation adjusted dollars and considering any increases in the state taxes on gasoline. I am on the right coast.
A few years ago the US put tariffs on Canadian lumber, 2x4's specifically, because your cost of production, harvesting and shipping, was lower than the cost of our lumber. So, Canada's response was to drill a hole, ostensibly for the electrical wire to go through, in each 2x4 and call it manufactured lumber by passing the tariffs on unmanufactured lumber. No one's minds will change here. I don't have to imagine anything worse. I lived through 8 years of worse. If we had elected Captain Planet (Al Gore), he would have implemented carbon taxes No way to prove or disprove that opinion. I don't have to prove it. I'm just going by what Al Gore said. He strongly supported the Kyoto Treaty, which would have required extremely high fuel taxes in order to reduce fuel consumption to the required targets. Along with those high prices, what's left of our manufacturing would have followed the cheap energy to China and elsewhere. Why, because Kyoto didn't place any limitations on the "developing" nations' energy use. If you accept the global warming theory, then you have to admit that carbon emissions are bad no matter what the country of origin. Kyoto was an attempt to level the economic playing field more than an environmental treaty. to save us from the global warming myth What part of the global warming situation do you think is a myth, and why? and we'd be paying over $3.00/gallon now. IMO, the best thing that could happen is $5.00 a gallon gas, with $4.95 of that consisting of taxes. I'll never understand the logic that says that if a corporation sells something that people want and the corporation makes a lot of money, it's evil, but if government seizes even more money, it's wonderful. Even at our appointed presidents Oh give it a rest already. pace of increased spending, we could balance the budget. It'll never happen, both parties spend more than they take in. I'd be all for reduced spending to balance the budget. And, as an added bonus, we could starve the very people who finance middle eastern terrorists. I suppose every SUV and recreational boat owner is guilty of supporting terrorism because of their fuel consumption. Nonsense. Where's your proof? Besides, how would impoverishing people make them not want to kill us? The only problem with that being it would involve some short term self sacrifice from the American consuming public. I don't mind sacrifice if it makes sense. Hell, I work for a living. I sacrifice my wages until about the end of May every year, just to pay my taxes. That's a sacrifice. You haven't explained how crippling our economy for the sake of an unproven theory would provide any benefit. bb |
