......Is that what you do, John? You
work for yourself?

Only for part of the year.

January through about early March, I work to pay for necessary and
worthwhile government functions; March through June I work to pay for
government waste, "entitlements" for whiners, education for non-citizen
illegal aliens, and a distinguished list of additional things to long to
list here; July and August (approximately) I work to pay for the socialized
medicine subsidies built into the med insurance premiums I pay for family
coverage; September through December I pretty much work for myself,
although my kids manage to grab a fair bit of it. :-)

You (and I) will have to plan on adding Sept and Oct to the "handout
list" if the dems get us socialized the way they'd like.

You mean "the dems" that recently ran up the biggest deficit in the shortest time
of any period in history?

If the dems try to give everything they're promising now, we've seen
nothing yet!

Let's see, free health care for all, free college for all, free drugs
for all, subsidized or free housing for all -- hell, we won't have to
work for anything, it'll all be free!

I can't wait.

I recall talking to a few engineers with whom I worked in Norway back in the
mid 70s. Now granted, that was 30 years ago, and the Scandinavian countries
have had to back off their socialist utopia to some degree, but the basic
principles remain valid.

While nominally employed in the private sector, these guys had had all their
ambition and incentive driven into the ground by the tax structure necessary
to support the government babysitting. What they told me at that time was
that in order to double their after-tax income, they would have to at least
quadruple the pre-tax figure. The horrendous thing is that now, thirty
years later, we're almost there.

What are you talking about, John? You draw a government pension. That's
about as socialized as it gets.
