"Capt. Frank Hopkins" wrote in message nk.net... ( snip ) When my Dad was over there saving their butts from Hitler, they hated us just a little less then the Germans. ( snip ) I have to disagree that the French hate Americans. My father, who landed on the Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944 as a member of the Second Canadian Army is being invited back by the French Government, for the 60th anniversary of this historic landing. He was also invited back, by the Dutch Government for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Holland. My father remembers our allies, the American soldiers, being welcomed by the French as well as by the Belgians and the Dutch, during these ceremonies. He is looking forward to renewing the friendships he made with the American Soldiers he met over there during the war, and with the French citizens who have invited him to their homes. Hi Jim, Have you been to Paris in the last few years? The wife and I went in 2001 for a few days, and and the inhabitants were just plain rude to us. We left 6 days early and went to England. I take it your father was on Gold Beach on D-Day. God bless him. If, he is still around, tell him "Thanks" for me. My father was in the 9th division. A combat photographer. Utah beach I think. He passed away in '96, but left behind a lot of photos, and memories. -- Capt. Frank Hopkins www.home.earthlink.net/~aartworks "Jim Carter" wrote in message le.rogers.com... "Capt. My last trip to France was in 2001, to the city of Nantes. I met some Americans there and they were having a great time, no problems at all. My father landed on Gold and was so happy to get ashore in one piece! His landing craft was hit by enemy fire several times. He told me that there was a small truck on the landing craft and he was under it on the ride into the beach. He is still around and is going to France on June 1'st to take part in the D Day remembrances. He is being presented with a medal by the Normandy Provincial Government. I will give him your "Thanks" Jim Carter, Port Captain, GLCC "The Boat" Bayfield |

6th of June. A lot of men lost their lives that day. We should never forget to honor their memory. WW II was a horror and a blot on civilization. By the time the US woke up, it was too late. Millions died because of that madman, Hitler. Yes, as Canadian, you are welcomed in most of the world. Especially in Florida. We get a lot of your countrymen through here in the winter months. As an native, and a person who's liveiehood depands on tourism, I always try to go out of my way to insure a happy vacation for Canadians. If you or yours are traveling to Florida, and need advice or help, send me an Email, and I will do what I can. -- Capt.
