Some quotes about Liberals

Below are some quotes by some very bright people about liberalism.

Liberalism is, I think, resurgent. One reason is that more and more
people are so painfully aware of the alternative. The modern
conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for
selfishness. John Kenneth Galbraith

As mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that
all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community
are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope
ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and
liberality. George Washington

Of all the varieties of virtues, liberalism is the most beloved.
Aristotle

Liberalism is trust of the people, tempered by prudence; conservatism,
distrust of the people, tempered by fear. William Gladstone

Government is a contrivance of human wisdom to provide for human
wants. People have the right to expect that these wants will be
provided for by this wisdom. Jimmy Carter

Liberalism is the supreme form of generosity; it is the right by which
the majority concedes to minorities and hence it is the noblest cry
that has ever resounded on this planet. Jose Ortega y Gasset

A liberal is a man or a woman or a child who looks forward to a better
day, a more tranquil night, and a bright, infinite future. Leonard
Bernstein

Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are
conservatives. John Stuart Mill

And some very dead people, and some European people. The connotations of
words change in different times and on different continents.

How absolutely fourth-grade! Like Carnak the Magnificent, he poses the

the breed!

You forgot a few, but is this really worth it? There, as usual is
nothing really to debate here except some folks say stuff you don't
like. Take back the group, there is nothing to discuss here, if noone
challenges him here, it dies, well except for the usual high fives...
BTW, I did not even read your post past the first line. Why bother, it
is only peoples opinions and rants... useless as your post.

Obviously, Mr. Mill didn't spend much time in *this* newsgroup!

Give him a fish and you feed a man for a day, teach him how to fish
and you feed him for a lifetime... (A conservative) It is this, I
think, that partially differentiates Liberals and Conservatives. To
you, handouts are the way to be unselfish. To me, teaching a trade is
the way to be unselfish.

How do you define 'selfish'? Harry Krause, in an earlier post, said
that conservatives thought selfishness was the greatest good (or words
to that effect). To me, true selfishness is doing whatever is in one's
short and long term best interests. This holds for nations also. Given
this definition, selfishness *is* the greatest good.

Chew on it.

Sorry, dude, but the daytime news reader/poster service I sometimes use
gets news posts on its own schedule. I had no idea *you* would be the
first right-wing puke to try to dispute the aphorisms.

"The fact that liberals are notorious liars is no minor issue -- and
it isn't a coincidental freak happening. It's no surprise that the
best spokesmen for liberalism is Bill Clinton. It's no surprise that
liberal men are known for being ladies men who lie to all the women to
get them in bed. Liberals, again, are rationalists, liars, fans of big
government and haters of reality. " Andrew Pawley
