Default HELP: Evinrude will not go

I have a Evinrude 48 spl that idles and revs fine in neutral but when I put
it in gear it just chugs and has no power. Any thoughts? Any help would be
most appreciated.

Thank you.

Assuming that the compression and ignition are OK and has been tested, most
likely the problem is with the carburetors gummed up internally and/or the
linkage and adustments. You need a service manual to do things right. A rare
but possible occurance is that the inner magnet of the flywheel came loose
and change the timing of the motor. You have to remove the flywheel with the
proper puller and try to twist the magnet assembly to see if there is any
movement.

Just guessing, but it's probably fuel related. Might want to use a
little carb cleaner and see what happens. Check for fouled plugs, bad
wires, the usual general inspection of the ignition system.

But clean the carbs first.

Drop me an email. I know the good ole 48s inside and out.

Spark check, compression test. After that, I would look at fuel. Check
your plug condition when you remove them.

A good service manual will walk you through the steps. Have you got
one?
