Sorry, but I like to swim in the ocean without a wet suit and water temps in at least the mid-70's. If you don't have ocean temps that high or higher, you don't have summer. Who'd want to swim in the ocean? That's where the whales poop. Dan -- You have just destroyed one model XQJ-37 Nuclear-Powered Pan-Sexual Roto-Plooker. And you're gonna have to pay for it! So give up, you haven't got a chance. -- Zappa, "Joe's Garage" |

That's where the HIV-positive Republicans swim. We putted across the sound to grab a bit of lunch yesterday. Enroute, I noticed my newly installed depth sounder was reporting a temperature of 48 F. A walloping 16 degrees warmer than ice. Nobody goes swimming, in the traditional sense, in water that cold for more than a short period of time and lives to tell about it. Personally, I can swim very well if I must but I prefer to cross the water above the surface. As far as summer goes up here......think of a gorgeous spring day in MD. Not so miserably hot that one has to plan how to run from the air-conditioned house to the air-conditioned car with the least discomfort, but a balmy 75-80 degree sunny day with just a hint of a slight breeze. String three such days together, and you've just had "summer" in the NW. :-) |

According to Bland, when he visited Naples two years ago, the current public transportation system was not yet running, contributing to his low transportation ranking. snip Halifax could have rated higher except for the climate and crime??? But climate and crime affects *everybody* who lives there. High prices and lack of public transportation are non-issues for someone who already lives in Naples, and never takes public transportation. |

And it's either raining...or about to rain.
************ You forgot, "just finished raining. again" We're having an El Nino year up this way. Normally, we have nine inches of rain by the end of February. So far this year we have had five. I think most of that fell during 2-3 days of the boat show. Where did the rain go? Down to "sunny" southern California, where Los Angeles has had 18-inches of rain so far in 2005, twice what Seattle gets in the same period in a "normal" year and many many times the few inches that LA would normally receive in Jan/Feb. |
