I don't have the service manual with me, right now, so I can't check.... The reason that I asked is that my local dealer suggested changing the anodes on my DF250 every 200 hours. He says there are anodes up in the head that need to be changed (never heard of this???), and it's pretty extensive work to get 'em off. He's telling me that the 2 hour service (change oil, water pump impeller, thermostat, anodes, bonding wires, lower gear oil, etc) is $240 in parts alone...and another 4 hours labor. I also have to pay transport cost because I don't have a trailer. The bill will be over $600! I'm at my 100 hour, and I've been quoted $148 to change the engine and lower gear oil. I'm probably going to do it myself since it'll take about 45 minutes. Have you ever heard of replacing anodes in the head? They must be part of the cooling system, but the service manual just calls for an "inspection" of the anodes at 200 hours...and replacement if they more than 2/3 gone. I store my boat on a lift and flush the engine every time. I doubt anodes can go that quickly. |

"Harry Krause" wrote in message ... NOYB wrote: Harry, What are the service bills running on your Yamaha? How many hours do you have on it now? I found the bill. It was in my desk, not in my vehicle. I paid: Oil filter element 22.00 (yikes) six quarters yamaha oil 30.84 (yikes) 2 gaskets 3.74 fuel filter 10.73 cleaner-degreaser 6.95 CRC 3.45 fogging oil 4.95 lower unit lube 18.75 The labor charge for these services was $145, but that included a complete boat and engine washing, inside and out, and a full check and run of the engine going in to storage and coming out in the spring, along with lube of engine and control fittings. Add another $180-200 for the water pump impeller and thermostat replacement...and another $100 in labor and parts for the anodes...and you're at my magical $600 ($550 plus $50 to transport the boat to the marina). I love my 4-stroke...but I'm not real thrilled with the maintenance costs. Of course, at a 12gph burn rate times 100 hours of running equals 1200 gallons of fuel burned. If my engine was a 2-stroke that used Yamalube at 50:1, I'd have burnt 30 gallons of the stuff (it sells for $24/gallon at West Marine...although a few places sell it in bulk for around $16-18/gallon). So the 100 hour oil change is still less than 2-stroke oil. |

Eisboch We were supposed to get 4-8" of snow, but the storm passed north of us, and we got 2-3" max, though there are snow showers forecast for today. It's -11C right now, though, and the winds are howling. I haven't been outside yet today. Looks pretty miserable. We're not totally immune down here in Florida either. It's a chilly 58F right now. ;-) Seas are 2 feet right now, but building to 10 feet this evening with NW winds 20-25 knots. The temp is supposed to drop 25 degrees over the next 12-18 hours. The Tampa area (160 miles north of me) is issuing Gale warnings, with seas 9-13 feet, and temps 27-32F. Sounds like a good day for the semi-annueal SW Florida Dental Assn Fishing Tournament. I went out today anyhow. Fished the back waters, and it wasn't too bad if I fished the leeward side of the mangroves. My 5 year old and I caught countless mangrove snappers and sheepshead on live and cut shrimp. All were teeny tiny, but it sure beats the snow. |
