Default Auction question

Hello everyone,

We're selling a boat on Ebay for the first time at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=2452145 905
but not getting any bids. Does everything seem in order in my auction? Do
you have any suggestions as to how I can approve it? The reason we're
starting the price at $37k is because that is the least we'd like to take
for the boat. It is worth much more according to local marinas. At any
rate, they charge $40 to list the boat and then $40 when someone bids, so we
didn't want to set the auction start at $1 for instance and set our reserve
at $37k. Thank you in advance for any of your suggestions.

While I think this might be a cute way to advirtise the boat.... LOL

I think your price is near retail for a six year old used boat like that.
Most Ebay people are looking for real "deals".

I've already advertised in here before... I'm not retrying again but I do
think we'll have to repost the boat once the auction is up. I want to make
sure I take any suggestions that may help in the future. We've been told by
numerous sources that we should ask for $40k plus when putting it on the
market. I think you may be right though that people on ebay are looking for
wholesale (or less than wholesale) price on a boat.

I agree with dubya here. If I were bidding on a boat based on some
pictures and statements, I would expect a heck of a contingency to be in
the price I was willing to pay. Lots of expensive stuff could be wrong.
Maybe stuff the owner doesn't even know about.

Just remember that a "winning" bid on E-bay has no legal force. It just
connects a buyer and seller. You'll still need to get a deposit, sign a
sales contract blah blah blah. If they back out after bidding, there's
nothing you can do except file a non-paying bidder alert on E-Bay. I had
this happen to me. Still, it generated a sales contract, something a broker
couldn't do in a year. This is the future in boat sales.

Sounds like it was exactly the same results your broker got the previous year.
No actual buyer came forward.

Some 12-year old kid cold have placed that bid on E-bay.

No, we actually signed a contract, did the survey and sea trial, etc. They
backed out after that for reasons unknown. Something they didn't like.

This is not a free ad web space. Your ISP will receive a complaint for each and
every time you post your boat for sale.

Did the people who told you that make an offer on the boat? Try cutting the
price in half, then you'll see it sell.

I can't believe how many people live in this country, have life long familiarity
with free markets, and have no freakin' clue about the laws of supply & demand.

I agree it is a nice looking boat, but my in opinion, you are priced at a
level where there are very few potential buyers for that particular boat.
There are so many boats in SW Florida in that size range for a lot less
money. Unless I missed something on your auction site, my first concern
would be the amount and no warranties on the engines.

We just purchased a new boat, and Yamaha is running a special deal on an
extra 3 years added onto the 2-yr factory warranty at no additional charge.
Well, I gotta figure they are getting their money somewhere, but I just got
a five year warranty.

That's my take too. His price is "fair", but you ain't gonna get full retail
value on Ebay.
