Sources that report to the Executive Branch. Wonder who's in charge of that?

Was Tenet a Bush appointee?

John H

Not important. The head of the Executive Branch must be able to assure that all
of his underlings are doing a proper job. It is his responsibility to exercise
judgment and replace those underlings who will not serve him or the public
well.

No doubt the CIA did convince a number of people that SH was sitting on a
bulging pile of nasty weapons and ready to go nuclear any moment. It's always
tough to prove a negative, and that was the position that Iraq was in. We felt
we didn't have to prove they had the weapons, but left them the rather
impossible task of proving that they did not.

*If* Bush was taken in by the CIA, he lacks the ability to control his own
department- so how the heck can he be considered capable of running the
country?

*If* is a big word. It takes the onus of lying off the back of the
President. So, let's hear no more about Bush telling lies.

As to what actions Bush should have taken with regard to the
information provided by Tenet, I can't say. Perhaps Bush should have
fired Tenet. Perhaps Bush still believes that Saddam did have WMD.
Perhaps those WMD are now in Syria. There are all kinds of "perhaps"
out there, other than the "Bush lied" perhaps.

Do I know which is true? No. NOYB has posted some very interesting
articles. Read them. You, et al, simply overlook anything that doesn't
start with, "Bush lied, neiner, neiner, neiner."

The question was whether he lied when he made the initial statements.
He was operating from the same info Gephardt had. The fact that he
changed his perception, as shown in your multiple quotes, does not
alter what he believed initially.

Perception? Get me up to speed here. Are you talking about curious

George?

If you want to run with Chuck, you gotta keep yourself up to speed.

John H

I was referring to the concept that you could use the term "perception" in
the same discussion as "George Bush". Looking to nature for an example, I
suppose even a lizard warming itself on a rock has some level of perception,
but Bush?

OK, Harry, I see you're using different names now.

I hope you're not suggesting that it's OK for Bush to send us to war because
independent of outside advice, he had a personal belief that there were
WMDs. A hunch? A private message he got from god while wandering around the
ranch? We don't send soldiers to die because of hunches.

Hope no further. I suggested that Bush got his advice from the same
source(s) as Gephardt. Based on the information he made a decision. I
believe he felt no more deceived than Gephardt, who still does not
feel deceived (witness the use of the present tense in his comment to
the Washington Post),

I wonder where Powell and Rice were getting their information:

Probably from the same place as Bush, Gephardt, et al.
