What the the defense department use as justification for this? Something

in
a contract/signed agreement?

Didn't catch that. There were the usual references to 9/11 etc.

I wish I remembered where, in the past month, I heard some comedian rattling
off a list of reasons why it would be a GOOD idea to send old guys like us
off to war. Really funny. Some examples I recall:

1) Old guys LIKE waking up at 3:30 AM. Matter of fact, some have no choice,
if their bladders have anything to say about it.

2) Old guys tend to like guns more than young guys, and have sometimes
created intellectual frameworks which justify shooting neighbors because
they don't like the way they park their cars. With that kind of thinking, a
real enemy is in grave danger.

3) Old guys don't need a hangover or any other reason to wake up grumpy and
irritable. Look out, enemy.

4) Old guys may actually LIKE soft food that requires no knife.

5) Old guys tend to know trouble when they see it, which should result in
the military having less problems with venereal disease or pregnancy in its
ranks.

6) Old guys have probably been married for many years, so they know the REAL
meaning of fear.

7) Old guys know how to motivate themselves when faced with distasteful
chores. Finish the chore (aw crap...not again...killing a few enemy
soldiers), get back to the pleasure (newspaper, television, golf).
