Last year we purchased a '73 sportfisher fixer-upper as a project. we
converted to outboards, and now we're sitting here with all the engine motors/drives/parts. problem is, I'm not sure what they are... I think the engines might have been an afterthought-upgrade, but not certain. regardless, we've got three pallets of spare/replacement parts. so I'd like to figure out what these are -- and whether they're worth selling, or simply hauling to the dump. the sterndrives are some flavor of OMC (I think) electric shift (maybe late 70's model). The engines themselves are inline 6-cylinders. 1) how do I go about determining the type/flavor of the engines? (from other threads it sounds like these might be the GM 250 small block) 2) is there someplace on the sterndrive units where a model # is located? (or some other way to positively identify the model/year)? thanks for any insight, mike |

If the valve guide covers on the side of the block is about 4 inches high,
they are most likely GM 250 165hp Mercruisers. If the valve guide covers are about 6 inches tall, it is the GM 292 185hp Crusaders. I'm looking for a good GM 292. G "mklein" wrote in message om... Most likely they are 160hp GM based OMC 250 cid I-6s. Rob |

thanks for the input -- they appear to be the 165hp flavor. any way of
telling what model of stern drives these are? |
