I'd like to put my view on this subject again & that is; it sounds too
much like spruiking more of the same experimenting with consumers' money
just as Ficht did from 98.

In my view, the evidence of the problems are all over the place, they're
now trying "stronger pistons & bore"????? really??? they admit the
combustion is abnormal??? this "is" rocket science & further confirmation
of what was killing the fichts all along; it was detonation from running
poorly atomised very lean mixtures at too high a power.

Again just my submission on the subject is that the "need" for special
high temp oil is even more confirmation, that they're still chasing the
symptoms rather than the cause. The tiny amounts of oil injected just stay
in the crankcase so it's no surprise really it gest overly hot &
certianly no surprise post mortems show backed oil behing the lean mixture
over heated rings.

I'm suggesting yet again :-) that none of this will work over the longer
term, just as all the desperate ficht fixes didn't, but of course just as
with ficht they make all sorts of silly claims with each new experiment.

To me, the latest claims confirm only one thing really, they have overly
hot combustion temps (high temp alloy pistons?? what desperation,
detonation is well established long before even the lowest grade aluminium
is even mildly "hot") which given they have endless cooling water supply
can only mean abnormal combustion, which means lean, which means heat
buildup, which means detonation.

I know this is the same old same old from me but so long as they try to
scam/spam people with their same old same old, well I'm entitled if not
outright oblidged to put the other view as I have since the beginning.
Thus far, along with help from lots of others, sadly I've have been proven
correct; poorly atomised lean mixtures at any sort of power makes for very
unreliable petrol engines, just ask the 7000 who lost their OMC jobs, the
pensioners who had their US1.3 bil ****ed against the wall, or if that's
not enough the sad boaters who got ripped off.

I suggest don't pay "extra" for a glorified lawn mower 2 stroke, worse
still an engine with unproven latest try to fix history, they should be
paying users as part of the testing program, which I'm more confident than
ever will prove yet again that the failure rate will be too high for
commercial consumer usage.

I have read many of Karen's articles about the Ficht and OMC's
direct-injection engines. I always come away with the impression
that these engines should not be able to survive more than a day
or two of typical use. Yet, they do.

The current Direct Injection engines from Evinrude seem to be
holding their own, and I haven't heard a tale of woe from an
owner in a long time.

No one can see into the future. For all we know there could be
piles of old 225-HP four-strokes sitting around boat repair shops
in a few years with bad valves, bad camshafts, bad oil pumps, bad
hydraulic linkages for their variable valve timing, etc.

The E-TEC engine seems quite simple mechanically, and quite complex
electronically. Simple mechanics generally outlasts complex mechanics.
Sustaining complex electronics is not that difficult these days.

By putting so much of the technology into the Engine Management Module,
it seems as though the E-TEC has the potential to carry the
two-stroke engine into new, low-emission operation.

We all know that a mechanically simple two-stroke outboard can run for
25-years. Maybe an electronically complex but mechanically simple
two-stroke can, too.

~~ snippage ~~

I have three of them and to be totally honest, I've had some problems
with one of them all of which were quickly solved by Bombardier at no
or little cost to me. And that one engine was an OMC engine so
Bombardier didn't have to do squat if they so didn't want to.

I have two FICHTS on my Contender and haven't had nary a burp from
them.

I have just updated this article with several additional pictures
from a FICHT 225-HP engine for comparison to the E-TEC arrangement.

Also, several hyperlinks to patent information possibly related
to the E-TEC engines have been added.

Great pics Bill. I get my chance with this motor on a 520 Ranger next
week.

Can't wait.

That is my two FICHTS alright.

Great pictures and info. Thanks.
