Default 1981 Master Marine...

I took a beautifully restored 1981 28' Master Marine CC out for a ride
today (don't ask - I keep coming back to this boat as the "middle"
boat of my fleet) and jumpin' jesus - what a boat!!!

I deliberately took it out the East Passage of Narragansett Bay and
ran it up Buzzards Bay with a heavy chop/wave component - what a ride.
I had a good time quartering waves, heading into waves, running with
waves - it was very impressive. These boats are very narrow (8'6") for
their length, but the long forefoot allows easy entry and exit from
large waves, a couple of them being in the 4/6' range in the East
Passage. That long forefoot to a moderate slope in the stern helps
the entry/exit a lot. Trim tabs help to keep the boat stable and at
speed coming back inside the Bay, it clipped right along around 30 mph
with a Yamaha 225 fuel injected six.

Compared to the 32 Contender, I was surprised that it handled as well
as it did. To tell the truth, this boat is better equipped to handle
heavy weather at speed than the Contender with one single 225 as
compared to my twin FICHTS.

I can see why the Moonies purchased these Henry Masters designed
beauties to chase tuna with - it's one hell of a fishing boat.

I'm mulling it over slowly. :)

Later,

Tom
