Does anyone out there know anything about Boat-Hearses and where one

might
obtain one? I have included a link to the one and only photo I was able

to
find.

Clever Idea about the ashes!. If it was set on fire far out enough it would
burn to the water line long before it blew back to shore.

What if he is cremated first...
Then take his ashes out on the viking longboat and then set it afire.

put him in it and send it to sea on fire upon his death. I did not
mind so much when he asked me to do it, but when I finally realized he
is serious, I kind of got freaked out. Still don't know if I am gonna
build that one, probably not. Scotty

Good one, I will use it next time he brings it up and being the season
of cheer and beer, I sure he will.

Certainly a personal choice for you but if that's what your friend truely
wants
I'd take it as an honor to do it. Provided of course you won't get into
legal
trouble by doing that. I suspect it would be illegal.

That is my suspicion too. And also there could be liability issues if
the wind changed and the boat came back! Scotty.

Why not ask your friend if he'd consider a ship burial. Last voyage in
his
ship wrapped in a shroud, followed by burial near the water IN HIS SHIP
with all its gear and raise a barrow mound over him and the ship. If the
grave is below the water table in a clay or peat soil, the pair of you
could be causing archeological controversy in 1000 years time.

I'd suggest an engraved lead plate with the date, his and the ship's names
etc. and naming you as the builder.

Should be perfectly legal with the land owner's permission.

Incidentally...one of the best kept secrets around...the USCG provides
free burial at sea, as time permits for anyone...

If that's his wishes, and he pays up front or is a good friend, I would
have no compunction. He should probably be cremated first to satisfy
local regs, and the boat should be created to burn as completely as
possible, but I can't think of a better way to go.

When I'm no longer interested in this body, any usable parts can be used
by the needy, Science can have it to figure out how I survived that
long, then burn the rest and put it in some water. The Virgin Islands
are my first choice, Chesapeake second, but the creek that starts in my
back yard is sufficient. I've enjoyed the body for more than a half
century, but when I'm done with it, I'm done.

Well this is just my opinion. But if those are truly his last wishes and he
can afford to have it built.

Yeah, that's the problem. He has owed me 50 bucks for almost a year
now and he is still alive. I am sure it would be almost impossible to
get him to pay me after he is dead and burned!

AND he can do that legally. I mean really its
no different than a burial at sea. Anyway just my opinion.

My self, the reason I want one if I just like to collect weird stuff.

Good point.. But a boat like that might be great for your examples of things
you have made.
