Hi --- Am considering purchasing the "Maine Roll-On"
(www.maineoutdoorproducts.com) for my Yakima rack system mounted on my pickup with cap. Has anyone had any experience with these, positive or negative- are they durable, difficult to attach, eg.? I'm getting too old (and too weak) to wrestle my 70 lb canoe onto the truck. This looks like it should ease the job. Thanks in advance. Jim Brady |

I have a Jeep Wrangler that has been raised and has larger tires....and the
Yakima bars are mounted on top of a storage rack. By way of saying, my sea kayak sits high in the air when on top of my Wrangler. I have the Yakima rollers on the back bar and the saddle mounts on the front bar. If you're having trouble loading your sea kayak and are considering rollers, why not stay with Yakima? The rollers lock and unlock...which means that once loaded, you can lock the rollers in place as the kayak sits on them. The only downside to them is that the supporting surface area is not as great as it is with the saddles. This means that my plastic boat, if left on the rollers and tied down securely for a length of time, can put temporary dents in the bottom of the kayak. These come out in a short period of time after removing the kayak. This could be avoided by using saddles on both the front and rear bars...but I need rollers due to the height of my bars from the ground. If that were not a concern, I'd opt for saddles front and rear (I think). Barry "J Brady" wrote in message ... I have Yakima Mako saddles front and rear and find it quite acceptable
and functional to raise the kayak onto the rear saddle, then pick up the other end of the kayak and slide it into place over the rear saddle. The kayak rides on the hard plastic. once in postion it rests on the softer less slippery rubber pads |
