I have Yakima Mako saddles front and rear and find it quite acceptable
and functional to raise the kayak onto the rear saddle, then pick up the
other end of the kayak and slide it into place over the rear saddle.
The kayak rides on the hard plastic. once in postion it rests on the
softer less slippery rubber pads
