Broke my shift cable on my Bayliner Victoria at the command bridge helm
this weekend. Just as I a few feet from the dock. Put it in forward to nudge it up and when I tried to put it in neutral the cable breaks, still in gear! I didn't think I could get down to the cabin helm as fast as I did. of course it was a pretty sloppy docking and then some old asshole yells out "take a boating course". if my kid weren't there I might have went over and pushed him in. Anyway to the point, it broke right at the adjusting threads, is there a repair kit the would splice threads on the end of the rod? Think the shift shoe tensioning bolt is shimmed wrong because its too stiff. Just bought the boat and the outdrive was recently rebuilt. If there isn't a kit I'll bet I can come up with something. From: "David" Anyway to the point, it broke right at the adjusting threads, is there a repair kit the would splice threads on the end of the rod? Splice threads? New one on me. cables aren't all that expensive. Just replace it. Think the shift shoe tensioning bolt is shimmed wrong because its too stiff. Maybe the cable is what's too stitf? Just bought the boat and the outdrive was recently rebuilt. If there isn't a kit I'll bet I can come up with something. Like getting a new cable? :-) Capt. Bill |

I had the exact same thing happen to me. There's no other way, replace
the cable. Be careful when you stick the end in the outdrive (Volvo 280?) there's a rubber boot that you can damage. I did. Then you get to replace that, too. Thanks for the advice, got a call into boat country for a part. Both helm
seems too stiff havn't owned a command bridge and I'm told they are stiffer than a single helm. All the other ones I'm used to (single helm) move easily. David "Jim" wrote in message ink.net... The guy on the dock is a jerk. A boating course isn't going to teach you
to dock nicely, just lots of practice, and an intact shift cable.
