The guy on the dock is a jerk. A boating course isn't going to teach you
to dock nicely, just lots of practice, and an intact shift cable. Next time
you see him, ask if he'd give you a hand replacing the shift cable. ;-)

Silicon Valley: STILL the best day job in the world.

Broke my shift cable on my Bayliner Victoria at the command bridge helm
this weekend. Just as I a few feet from the dock. Put it in forward to nudge
it up and when I tried to put it in neutral the cable breaks, still in gear!
I didn't think I could get down to the cabin helm as fast as I did. of
course it was a pretty sloppy docking and then some old asshole yells out
"take a boating course". if my kid weren't there I might have went over and
pushed him in. Anyway to the point, it broke right at the adjusting threads,
is there a repair kit the would splice threads on the end of the rod? Think
the shift shoe tensioning bolt is shimmed wrong because its too stiff. Just
bought the boat and the outdrive was recently rebuilt. If there isn't a kit
I'll bet I can come up with something. Thanks for any help
