You have to be a right-wing whacko to think that NPR is left-wing. It is as balanced and unbiased as any media can get. Of course you think otherwise, the voices on right-wing hate radio tell you so. But they don't tell you that NPR carries many of President Bush's speeches, interviews with General Tommy Franks, etc etc. Boy talk about a leftist agenda! I have to agree. I listen to NPR regularly. While I think some of the programming on our local NPR member station could be considered fairly liberal. I find much of the NPR programming to be very objective. I would say that much of it is pretty damned boring. "Talk of the Nation" - I listen to the first five minutes and then, about half the time, I have to say to myself, "The nation is talking about *that*? What a bore." and dial up a local news station. "Morning Edition" is an excellent news broadcast. "All Things Considered" is another good program. NPR and their member stations have done some stupid stuff that make them look partisan from time to time. A while back they were sharing member lists with the democratic party. The quantity of liberal-type junk mail increased we get increased after my wife became a member of the local station. I should note that my wife is a democrat and has other affilations that contribute to the mix of stuff in our mailbox. And they seem to get a pass on certain things. I saw a piece in the WSJ "taste" section today that mentions Morning Edition anchor, Bob Edwards... "...In an interview with Talkers Magazine, Mr. Edwards gave a surprising answer when asked what kind of people listen to NPR. "'Bright people,' he replied. 'People of all economic strata. It's a whiter audience than we would like and we're trying to fix that.' "Now substitute 'GOP Chairman Ed Gillespie' for Bob Edwards and 'Republican Party' for National Public Radio and think what the reaction would be to a statement that could be read to imply that white people are somehow brighter..." |
