Default Insuring a rented boat

I'm going on vacation and we're renting a power boat for the week. I
need insurance but the place we're renting from does not provide it.

Any recommendations on agencies which will provide temp. boat
insurance?

Thanks

Check with your car/home insurance agent. They probably have an underwriter
they work with....

What kind of rental company doesn't offer insurance?

Liability coverage should be easy to come by. If you own your home check
with your homeowners insurance company and see if you can get a "rider" on
your home policy. That would be the easiest and cheapest and they could
probably do some sort of "blanket" policy that would provide coverage for
any boat you happened to be in.

To get coverage for damage (collision) is going to be a lot harder. Any
insurance policy that I have ever obtained needed to know the hull ID
number, make, model, year, etc. of the boat that they were insuring. Unless
you can obtain all that information in advance you might have to wait until
you actually have the boat. Even then I am not sure that you could insure a
boat you didn't own.
