If road and traffic conditions are decent I'll just keep accelerating

90+ and the brakes are superb. There's a lot to be said for German

Jacob brakes are godsend for western trucks. Huge mountains.

They are loud but you have to remember that a diesel, unlike a gasoline
engine, does not provide any engine braking when you take your foot
off the gas/fuel pedal. Going down a hill a diesel powered truck will
just keep accelerating and truckers would be replacing expensive brakes
often.



In 'tow/haul' mode, mine will downshift to slow down if I have the cruise control at a slower speed.
Also, going downhill and hitting the brakes will cause it to downshift.


I understand but still, a diesel offers no engine braking like a gas engine.


I haven't figured out how it works, but the engine RPM goes up as the truck is slowing down -
without me using the brake. It sure sounds and feels like the engine is slowing the truck down
somehow.



Some HD GM and Ford pickups have an exhaust brake that works with the
turbocharger. It's not a "Jake" brake and is not noisy like those on
big trucks. The Ford F-350 diesel I had (2005) had one. Mine had
no "control" or off/on switch like in the video (below).

I suspect they could put mufflers on the exhaust port of the Jake

As I have stated, I used to like some bluegrass music, but my tastes
have evolved over the years. Now, it all seems to sound the same to me.
I still like acoustic folk music, with or without voices. I like jazz, I
like the old Motown sounds.

I know a good number of "urbanized" blacks, Latinos, et cetera. None of
them are thugs or welfare cheats. One of our closet friends is a black
psychologist from rural Virginia who managed to get his doctorate a few
years ago from George Washington University.

Unfortunately that is not what I usually see there and I am not really
"scared" of much of anything. I can certainly hold my own in a
