Well, I do have 43700 kilometers on the odometer (roughly 27000 miles) and it will be 5 years old at the end of next month. Plus I like the new dash much better. Decisions...decisions. Wife was working on me to trade in our Bayliner for a VR4...a full 18 feet long and wider. Comes with either a 200hp I/O or a 115 hp Mercury outboard. have to admit the 175BR squats a bit in the water with passengers in the rear jump seats and it's a bit more effort to get it up on plane compared to when there is only the two of us and our Springer Spaniel. Everyone told you that boat was underpowered. 135 hp for a 17.5 foot boat?? Not likely. We just need a bigger boat with more hp if we plan on carrying guests on a regular basis. A 90HP outboard on that same boat would outperform the 135 I/O and probably burn less fuel. Bayliner has offered under-powered boats for as long as I can remember. They shoot for a price point and cut corners wherever they can to make that happen. The newer Bayliners have improved on that 1980's - 1990's business plan. |

Well, can't say you weren't well advised. He won't admit it. Harry, the Bayliner hater, kept quiet on that purchase. You would think he would have helped his only friend. Yup. Harry turned the advice into a 'personal attack' on Donnie. I suppose Donnie now thinks he can get a wider boat in his driveway. He'll need an additional wife to help him pull that off. Maybe one of Fat Harry's ex wives is available. They have likely moved far away. |

Maybe Donnie doesn't realize that putting his guests in the bow of the bowrider would help him get on plane more easily. |

Mr White (to y'all) certainly does realize that, Johnny.
My manual advises against that while underway. Seems it's a safety concern. Besides, how would y'all like to get repeated splashes of coldcwater from Halifax Harbour in your mug? |

You have the wrong kind of boat for your boating venue. |

I have a 27 foot bow rider that behaves exactly the same way so length is not the answer. For rough water you really need high freeboard forward. Take a look at serious fishing boats like Grady Whites. --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com |

There's seat cushions and pads up there, but 'no riding in the bow'? Are you sure you don't mean 'no riding on the bow with feet dangling over the bow'? Donnie, I'd really have to see that statement in your book. Which book are you quoting? |

Sentimental favorite is a 16' Amesbury Dory with a 20 or 25 hp outboard: http://stur-deeboat.com/wp/wp-conten...16-strip1a.jpg Or a Carolina Skiff, or one of the aluminum fishing boats that are common down there. Lots of skinny water, so shallow draft is important. |
