I have always been a shower a day guy (before I go to bed) and if I am
working outside I shower out there, maybe several times a day. (no
soap tho)
It is mostly just to keep the dirt out of the pool. I am in the pool a
lot and Deuce is in there several times a day too. When we had the AC
off, he just stayed wet because he could just walk out there and jump
in. He seems ****ed that we have the doors closed now.

So much for the whole house generator for me. Mine did run my whole
house minus the AC, dryer and water heater and I have a plan for the
water heater. With a pool, the AC is not important during the day and
at night my generator runs the mini split in the bedroom just fine.

Water cooled diesel is the best way to go if you can handle the
initial cost - much quieter, much more fuel efficient. Of course it's
even better if it comes with a boat wrapped around it. :-)

overnight, and
of personal comfort
typically we only get one every few months. We
got the generator after a
big outage that lasted a week. Our yippy-dippy local
electrical co-op
seems to have gotten better over the years. Or the storms have
gotten
smaller. If we had a four day outage, it would cost about $250
in fuel,
less than we'd spend on a decent local motel, assuming we
could find one
that had power.


You'd move into a motel because of a four day power outage if
you didn't
have your generator?

For starters, my wife wears suits and other professional outfits
to work
and when she sees patients, and, like me likes to bathe at least
once a
day. Then there is the matter of having water to flush the
toilet. Then
there is the matter when it is too hot outside. And so forth.

I got in the habit of showering twice a day years ago, though once in a
while I'll skip an early morning shower, especially when I am not seeing
a client or friends. It's just habit. Our cats do seem to prefer
sniffing my feet when I skip the morning douse. :)

I'm thinking you could go a couple weeks without showering and not stink.

I bought one of those (or similar) on eBay when I had the guitar shop
and occasionally worked on guitar amps. It still worked great although
it probably was out of calibration. Dual probes too. I lent it to a
guy who was doing some troubleshooting and that's the last I ever saw of
it. Can't even locate him anymore.

Only a real boat will do unless you're willing to settle for imaginary
results. Real boats will really increase the cost and maintenance of
course, but you get the fringe benefit of being able to work certain
people into a lather, at least if the real boat is big enough, holds
enough fuel, etc.

The first thing I addressed was cleaning up the pool. That goes a long
way towards keeping cool and not developing that 3d world smell.
Flushing toilets is the easy one. Just dump a bucket of water in it.
OTOH if you have a lift pump, it might just come up in your bath tub.
My septic is gravity operated. When they told me all new systems might
have to be mound systems I just fixed the one I had ... off the books.
Tiki bar builders know how to do that sort of thing ;-)



Florida ... or at least some sections of it ... does not seem to have a
big problem with septic systems which surprised me because of the water
table. When we bought the first house in Jupiter I asked if the septic
system had been routinely pumped or if any inspections were required.
The realtor looked at me like I had two heads.

Up here it's recommended you have your system pumped once a year ...
every two years max. We also have a mandatory inspection called "Title
V" that the homeowner is responsible to have done when selling the
property. The inspection is basically to ensure the tank, "D" box and
leeching field is working properly. Some of the older homes fail and
it can prevent a sale. The state also banned mound systems a few years
ago. So, if your system fails the inspection, you can plan on a $30k to
$50k expenditure.

Its nice to have a 28k Katolite 110/220 single phase gen that drives from a tractor PTO. I don't have a tractor big enough to pull it but my next door neighbor does. His 4440 John Deere is also set with a hi/low PTO. You set it in high range and then you can idle the engine down for fuel savings.

Right before bad weather hits, it's dug out, hooked up to make sure it works correctly, then stored it till its needed. Both our houses are set for external power. Fortunately we haven't needed it...yet.

Good idea. I also want to scope the outputs of my UPS units as part of
another conversation I am having on another group.
I guess I will have "science day" when things calm down.

How deep is your lust? (now I have the BeeGee's song stuck in my head)
I have a spare 453 in the shop. Is it worth driving to Estero for you?
I will use that one to check the genset to be sure it is working.
