Well, then, perhaps you need to adjust your software. Or perhaps you can
provide a list of sites that don't annoy you or your software. Or
perhaps you can just read what is cited and not bother with the URLs.
Despite your disdain for anything commercialized, someone has to pay for
the work. Unless, of course, your media diet consists of bootlegged
audio and films.
I understand your appreciation for the ad business. Without it you
would still be chipping scale out of boilers or toting bricks but I
find them annoying and I am less likely to buy something I saw in a
pop up ad so it is not "paying" for anything.
OTOH I am willing to buy what I want so I am not subjecting people to
ads and tracking cookies, just to see a picture I want to share.
As for your non-answer, answer, I was a little curious to see who you
were stealing your opinion from instead of writing your own. (You
being a "professional writer" and all)
Actually, without the "ad business," I'd probably still be in the "news
business," though that business is also supported by advertising. My
stint cleaning boilers was a summer job between college semesters. I
never "toted" brick.
