There's a new project coming up on Kickstarter for a low cost NMEA0183 to WiFi device.
Have a look at
www.nmeatools.com for more information.

I already have that via a laptop and some free nav software. What I
need now is something that goes from TCPIP/WiFi to a virtual COM port.

Can you explain a little more about what you need? I may be able to scare something up for you.

I would be broadcasting a NMEA-183 data stream onto tcp/ip wireless
LAN port 255 using UDP protocol. I'd like to be able to receive that
data stream elsewhere on the boat and have it appear as input to a
virtual COM port (for use by an application that expects to receive
data via a COM port.)

An external device that could receive the TCP data and create serial
output would also work.

You mean you want to convert corn into cornflakes?
