You are right that AR optics have to be mounted higher because there
is virtually no drop at the comb. That was one thing that prompted the
"handle" (for iron sights)

steel front sight.


In sporting terms you are more of a varmint shooter even if your
"woodchucks" are plastic or steel.
Tactical shooters tend to be more of a run and gun style where you are
not welding your cheek on the stock regulating your breathing and
trying to shoot between heartbeats. If you hit the steel, it is a hit.
Tight groups do not score any more than barely nicking the edge.
