Oh, why is that?

People working in the defense industry tend to be in the half of the
population who do pay taxes and without that work they would be
unemployed. Without the Pentagon, there is no market for that much
technology and certainly not at that price. This stuff is "Made in
America" which means it is 2 or 3 times as much as it would cost if it
came from where the rest of our consumer goods are made.
